Gender-Affirming Surgery Visual Guide

Gender-affirming surgery alters the natal sexual characteristics of an individual in order to create new anatomy that aligns with their identified gender. Though there are a variety of clinical options available, there are three main categories of gender affirming surgery: Top surgery, bottom surgery, and facial surgery. This project produced patient education illustrations depicting vaginoplasties for trans women, phalloplasties for trans men, and facial feminization surgery. I worked closely with both patients and professionals in the Johns Hopkins Center for Transgender Health and focused on techniques used by Dr. Devin O’Brien-Coon.
